Lahore, The Government College University (GCU) has opened its intermediate admissions from August 3, 2011 which will remain open till August 10. All the Public sector colleges have announced schedule for admissions to intermediate classes, with the announcement of matriculation result.
No admission form will be acceptable after the due date while the first merit list would be displayed on August 15, 2011 Registrar Prof Anjum Nisar of (GCU) on Tuesday said. GCU’s last year minimum merit for admission to FSc Pre-Engineering was 972 marks, Pre-Medical 961 marks, Intermediate Computer Sciences (ICS) 901 marks, FSc General Science 820 marks, Intermediate in Commerce (I Com) 857 marks He said. While admissions for Intermediate in Arts were closed at 806 marks in 2010.
Prof Nisar further said that this year, the GCU would be offering admissions on the basis of Hafiz-e-Quran, Disability, Sports, Kinship, Minorities and Co-curricular activities, Fine Arts, Overseas Pakistanis including Debates (English, Urdu and Punjabi), Drama, Music, Rovers Club, Qiraat and Naat. The registrar said trials for admissions in co-curricular and sports would be held on August 12 to August 19, 2011.He also said sports seats will be offered in 18 games, including athletics, squash, badminton, bodybuilding, wrestling, football, swimming, hockey, table tennis, tennis, basketball, cricket, gymnastic, boxing, weightlifting, volleyball and handball.

General Admission Regulations
I. Admission is granted strictly on merit.
II. Admissions are made in accordance with the Rules and Regulations as well as the general Policy and Procedures of the University.
III. University Authorities can reject candidate’s application for admission on the ground of unbecoming character or conduct.
IV. University Authorities have the right to cancel the admission or refuse migration to a candidate, at any stage, after the admission or migration, when it comes to their knowledge that the documents presented by him are fake or there is a misstatement or an error in the documents which may
I. Only those candidates who have passed their Examination in the 2nd Annual 2010 with at least 60% marks will be eligible to apply for admission.
II. Applicants who have passed Secondary School Certificate SSC (Tech) shall not be eligible for admission.
III. The candidates must not be above 18 years of age on the last date of the receipt of applications.

I. Admission Forms shall be submitted to the authorized bank from where the Admission Forms have been obtained within the prescribed period of time, notified by the University. No Admission Form shall be accepted after the expiry of the last date for submission of Admission Forms except with the special permission of the Vice Chancellor.
II. The candidates seeking admission on Sports/Co-curricular Activities/Special Categories basis shall submit a Sports Form/Co-curricular Activities Form/ Special Categories Form, as the case may be, along with the general Application Form to the authorized bank. All Forms are attached with the prospectus. The list of the candidates eligible for interview will be displayed on the University Notice Board.
III. The candidate has to bring his father/guardian at the time of interview. The candidate, who remains absent from the interview will forfeit his right to admission, however, with the permission of the Vice Chancellor, he may be allowed to appear for interview provided he proves that due to unavoidable circumstances he could not appear in the interview, and provided if there is a seat available.
IV. The candidates who remain absent or fail in the Interview will not be eligible for admission.
V. After the completion of all formalities pertaining to admission, the list of the selected candidates shall be displayed on the University Notice Board and GCU website http://www.gcu.edu.pk as well.
VI. The candidates who fail to deposit their dues within due date will forfeit.
I. Sports/Co-curricular and Special Category certificates will not be accepted after the last date for the submission of the Admission Form.
II. The candidates for admission on Sports/Co-curricular and Special Category basis shall have to take part in trials/tests of their respective Sports/Co-curricular Activities as per schedule of trials and tests.
III. The students applying for admission on the basis of Sports and Co-curricular Activities shall have to submit along with the Admission Form an affidavit to the effect that they shall take part in Sports Events/Co-curricular Activities on behalf of the University. They will also have to practice regularly at the University, otherwise their admission will be cancelled.
i. Sportsmen are admitted to GCU on the basis of performance in sports. Admission on sports basis in team games (Football, Cricket and Hockey) will only be offered to the candidates in the subjects of General Science, Arts and Commerce Group. The candidates applying for Science subjects may be

ii. The candidates admitted on sports basis shall in no case be allowed to represent, or play for, or seek employment in any Government/ Semi-Government or Private Institution/ Club, such as WAPDA, Pakistan Railways, Police, etc. However, at the district, provincial or national level, the students are allowed to participate with the permission of Director Sports. An affidavit shall have to be attached to violate these regulations will be expelled from the University.
iii. The candidates who are admitted to Intermediate on sports basis and later on take admission to BA/BSc (Hons) will be considered to have been admitted on sports basis, and will be subject to the same obligations as applicable at the Intermediate level.
iv. O’Level/equivalent students awaiting results may also apply for admission on sports basis. Matriculation result awaiting students in special case may also apply. However, their admission will be confirmed after submission of results in the year of admission and they have to take part in the trials.
v. Candidates will have to appear for the trials of sports according to the programme given by the Sports Office. The candidates recommended by the Sports Board will be called for interview on the scheduled dates. Selection by the Sports Board or Committee cannot be challenged in any court. The candidates who remain absent or fail in the interview shall have no claim to admission. No separate arrangement shall be made for trials/Interviews by the University.
vi. Sportsmen participating in sports are entitled to duty leaves; Directorate of Sports shall forward such application to Deputy Registrar (Admission) well.
vii. Sportsmen may be given scholarship/ full dues concession/fee concession on account of outstanding performance in sports on the recommendations of the Director Sports.
viii. The sportsmen are required to follow the rules and regulations of GC University Lahore strictly.
ix. Relaxation may be granted to sportsmen only on account of sports activities. Non-participant sportsmen or in case of lack of any sports activity, all sportsmen are bound to attend regular classes and take examinations.
x. Vice Chancellor, GC University Lahore has the authority to relax age limit by one year subject to the provision in rules of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore.
xi. The Chairman Sports Board and the Director Sports shall have the prerogative to determine the number of seats in each team/game.

I. Submit a certificate from a registered Madrassa from where he has completed his Hifz-e-Quran.

Those who have passed O-Level/ equivalent not from a Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Pakistan will be given admission on the basis of their performance in O Level/ equivalent examination and the merit of such candidates will be determined amongst themselves after converting their grades of O’Level/equivalent according to the following formula:

Admission on the basis of O-Level / equivalent will be made provisionally after the declaration of the result of those candidates who have passed O Level/ equivalent examination in the years of admission. Separate advertisement will appear in the National News Papers inviting application forms from such candidates. They shall not submit application forms along with the other candidates applying
iv. The admission on O’Level/equivalent basis will be confirmed after the Submission of Equivalence Certificate obtained from the office of: “Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC)”.
9. Overseas Pakistanis
In addition to the seats for admission to the First Year (Intermediate) on merit, a quota of seats is reserved for the Pakistani Expatriates or sons of parents working in a foreign country. The allocation of seats in different groups i.e. medical or non-medical will be made by the Admission Committee. General conditions for admission to the seats reserved for Pakistani Expatriates or sons of parents working in a foreign country shall be the same as laid down for the candidates applying for admission to class X1 in this institution on open merit.
I. They should have obtained at least 60% marks in SSC Examination.
II. The admission will be granted on merit as determined amongst the applicants applying on the Overseas Pakistanis reserved seats.
III. The parents of candidates must be Pakistani Expatriates or their parents must be Pakistanis working/engaged in business in a foreign country. In case, a candidate’s parents are employed abroad, he shall have to submit a certificate to that effect from the employer.
IV. In case, a candidate’s parents are engaged in business in a foreign country, he shall have to produce a proof of his parent’s business/office as well as resident status attached with

10. Provinces other than Punjab
i. The candidates from the provinces other than Punjab have to route their complete Admission Forms for the reserved seats to the University Admission Office through the concerned Provincial Government along with domicile certificate within

Migration to the GCU will only be allowed on the fulfillment of the following conditions:
i. Transfer of residence of parents.
ii. The candidate’s marks should not be below the University open merit.
iii. The candidates who have passed 2011 are not eligible to apply for migration to GC University Lahore.
iv. The students from the local colleges are not eligible to seek migration to GC University Lahore.
v. The students migrating from other cities will not be eligible for hostel accommodation.
vi. At the time of migration, full University dues are to be paid by the migrating
Courses of Study
i. Subject combination (set) can only be selected from the sets given in the prospectus. In case, a student selects subjects different than the given subject combination (set)he shall have to change these subjects in accordance with the given sets.
ii. A student who wishes to study English Literature will be required to qualify a written test to prove his ability at the beginning of the Academic Session. In case of failure in the test, the student will have to select another subject. In this connection, he will be required to fill in a declaration form and submit it
iii. Pakistani students will have to study the same syllabus for Urdu compulsory whether they come from English medium or Urdu medium school.
iv. The students who wish to attempt a paper in English version in the Board’s Examination, they have to do all papers in English including Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies.
v. Conversion of admission from one group to another group is allowed on merit subject to the availability of seat in that group.

a. Foreign students who have passed SSC Examinations from a Board of Secondary Education in Pakistan will have to study Urdu compulsory.

Change of Subjects
- The set/group of subjects once selected in accordance with the given sets can only be changed within a specified period of time as notified by the University.
- The dates for change of subjects shall be notified after the University admissions have been finalized. Change of subjects shall not be allowed after the expiry of the notified period.
- The choice of subjects should be in accordance with the given sets.
Specified scholarships of University, Government and Local Bodies will be available to the University students. The deserving Muslim students will be granted stipends from Provincial Bait-ul-Mal. The interested students should get an eligibility certificate from the Local Zakat Committee of the Area and submit the application to the Punjab Baitul-Mal Office after getting it attested by the Registrar’s Office.
The smoking within the University premises, is strictly prohibited. Those who violate this rule will be liable to punishment. Any staff member can check a University student within the premises of the University and fine the student found smoking.
To maintain discipline and order in the University there is a Proctorial Board comprising staff members. Cases of violations of University discipline should be reported to the Chief Proctor, who will immediately take appropriate action. Any fine imposed by the Chief Proctor or the Proctorial Board cannot be remitted or reduced.

PAYMENTS OF FEES, FUNDS AND OTHER DUES (FA/FSC/ICOM)
- All University dues once paid by the students including Foreigners and Overseas Pakistanis shall not be refunded.
- The University fee, funds and other dues must be paid as per dates notified by the University.
- Dues cannot be deposited in the Bank on 1 and 2 working day of every month due to payment of University staff salary.
- Dues have to be deposited directly in the Bank through Bank Challan in cash only. Cheque, Draft, Pay Order, Traveller’s Cheques, etc. are not acceptable.
- The students entitled to Tuition Fee Concession on the basis of teacher’s son (BS: 1 to BS: 15), brother fee concession (if real brother/sister studying in GCU) and Hafiz-e-Quran, must submit their Tuition Fee Concession Forms (available in the Fee Section of the Treasurer’s Office or can be downloaded from http://treasurer.gcu.edu.pk, complete in all respects, to the Fee Section within the due date notified by the University.
- If a Challan is lost by a student, he will have to pay fine of Rs.50/- for duplicate Challan Form.
- Challan Form per day upto one week after the due date.
- In case, he fails to pay the dues even one week after the due date for payment of dues along with fine, his name will be dropped from the University rolls. If he is allowed Readmission, he will have to deposit Rs. 500/- as Readmission Fee.
- For the restoration of admission, the student has to submit the application within the due date (mentioned in the struck off notification). No application will be entertained after the expiry of this date.
- According to GC University Rules, the library and Hostel security is refundable within two years after the end of the academic session after which the refund shall not be admissible. Refund shall only be admissible after all University dues have been paid.

- Liberal financial assistance is provided to the bright and deserving students. In case, financial aid is needed, the applicant may obtain the financial aid form from University website or from the Scholarship Assistant in the Treasurer’s Office and after filling it up in all respects, the same should be deposited to the Diary Branch in the Treasurer’s Office.
- Financial Aid will be granted only to the deserving students on the approval of the University Financial Aid Committee headed by Dr. Sultan Shah, Chairperson, Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies as per parameters adopted for the grant of financial aid and subject to availability of the funds and on the basis of good character, regular attendance and satisfactory performance in the academic field. Fee concession can be withdrawn in case of false/wrong, incomplete information, immoral behavior, irregularity or be assigned some duty in the University and in hostel.
