Pakistan Engineering Council is a very prominent and constitutional body in Pakistan which is being legislated and brought on legal terms under the PEC Act 1976, the body is responsible to regulate, reformulate and maintain the engineering profession in the state and are working for the sustainable growth and development of the engineering industry in Pakistan and at the same time they are also responsible to allocate the standards which must be followed by all the engineering colleges and universities in Pakistan, all such degree awarding institutes in Pakistan are affiliated and registered with PEC and the one which are not registered are not considered to be recognized and authentic institution as far as engineering is concerned.

One of the key functions of Pakistan Engineering Council is the registration of the engineers, as every engineer who has graduated in Pakistan must be registered under PEC and for that purpose they have formulated a well defined procedure which should be followed by each and every candidate.

Registration Procedure for Professional Engineers:

  • The very basic and initial step for obtaining the registration with PEC of either Registered Engineer which RE or Professional Engineer which is PE; the candidate must fill the PEC Form-1B which is available on their website as well. The form comprise of 4v pages and on the 4th page all the requirements are being listed, once the form is completely filled and all the required documents are being attached with it must be submitted in any PEC offices with the prescribed amount as fee while it can be posted as well with the bank draft of that respective amount. (In case an individual is posting the above form, he/she has to get the photocopy of Engg qualification document verified from the nearest branch/liaison office of PEC).
  •  According to the PEC provisions amendment Ordinance # X of 2005, the engineers are to be registered under two categories; either they should be a “Registered Engineers” or a “Professional Engineers”.

The following registration and renewal fees will be charged:

Registered Engineer

(i) Registration Fee
(ii) Renewal fee @ Rs.150/- year

Rs.250/- one time*
Rs. 750/- for 5 years
Total: Rs.1000/-

Professional Engineer

(i) Registration fee
(ii) Renewal fee (life subscription)

Rs.500/- one time
Rs.5000/-

 

Note: *Arrears are charged (@ Rs 150 per year) if 1 or more years have elapsed between the date of graduation & the date of registration.

  • When the completely filled PEC 1-B form is being submitted in the PEC office the process of verification takes place, here two actions are taken, if the duly filled form is verified and no divergence is being found that it is being processed by the PE Registration Department to the PE Enrollment Committee for the approval, and if discrepancies are being found than the form is being returned to the applicant for the rectification.
  • Once the approval is being given by the Enrollment Committee than the respective engineer’s data and records are being entered in the database and then the Registration Certificate is being issued to the concerned applicant engineer.
  • The Registration Certificate is valid for 3 years only so, the applicant is also given a Renewal Card which is being used to renew the certificate after the span is over.
  • The applicant engineer if he/she is a Foreign National is required to obtain a TEMPORARY LICENSE from PEC before embarking upon a project in Pakistan. Such license is issued for 1 year only at a charge of Rs 1000 and has to be renewed on annual basis at the same charge rate. The same PEC-I Form is to be used for application.
