By CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz, a relief package has been announced for those people who have been affected by the flood. Punjab govt announced apna ghar & apni chat scheme, now especially in those areas where floods destroy homes.

In Punjab province, 13 areas are heavily affected. As well as 11 areas of Punjab where the density of flood is low, not high, but people are affected. Now, people are living under the open sky because houses are full of floodwater.

On the provincial level, the Punjab government and on the federal level, PDMA continuously monitor the flood and try to provide the best facilities to affected people.

In areas where crops have been destroyed on a large scale, the Government of Punjab has announced that farmers will be given a special relief package. In some areas where people’s houses have collapsed, free houses will be provided under the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ scheme. Before this scheme, the government of Punjab already provided the 8171 Ehsaas Program scheme and Insaf Imdad program.

What is Apna Ghar & Apni Chat Scheme?

Basically, CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz announced the ‘Apni Ghar, Apni Chhat’ scheme for poor people who cannot afford to build their own houses. But in the recent floods, many poor families who already had houses lost them to destruction. Now, the Punjab government has decided to build new houses for them on their own land. Along with this, those who were living in temporary shelters will be given land, and proper houses will be constructed for them.

Let me make one thing clear. So far, only the relief package has been announced; it has not yet been distributed among the people. When registration or distribution begins, you will be informed.

Objectives of the Scheme

The scheme targets both humanitarian relief and long-term development. Its objectives include:

  • Provide permanent shelter to displaced families.
  • Ensure every family has a roof over their heads.
  • Financial support for rebuilding destroyed homes.
  • Focus on widows, orphans, and disabled persons.
  • Restore dignity and stability to victims of floods.

Implementation Strategy

The government has created a transparent system to avoid misuse:

  • District administration to collect data.
  • Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) for coordination.
  • Digital verification system to prevent duplicate claims.
  • Third-party audits for transparency.

Public Reaction & CM’s Statement

CM Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, emphasized that:

“Every family deserves a roof over their head. With this scheme, the government of Punjab will not only provide shelter but also restore dignity and security for flood-affected citizens.”

The scheme has been widely appreciated across Punjab as a compassionate step for the poor.

The “Apna Ghar & Apni Chat” Scheme is more than a relief package; it’s a symbol of hope for thousands of Punjab families who lost their homes. By focusing on permanent housing and financial dignity, the government shows a clear commitment to rebuilding lives, not just providing short-term aid.
