Child labor is a crime and in the constituency of Pakistan it must be penalized and should be condemned but still, it is being done without any shame, embarrassment, and freedom. Organizations are working in the country which are deliberately encouraging child labor and the most brutal and cruel act is when the children are forced to beg on the roads of the country. Various NGOs are working for the rehabilitation of such children but still, the mafias behind these activities are stronger than these NGOs.

Recently in Sialkot, a group of people was being arrested by the local police who were involved in indulging children forcefully for begging on the roads, and almost 20 of the children were rescued from them. This tells how inhuman we are getting that children who are the future of the state and who will be running the country in the upcoming time are being destroyed. Not only begging is a form of Child Labor in Pakistan, but we can also see all around our surroundings and we can find that children who should have books in their hands are having dirty plates, tools, and shoes of the people. According to a survey made in early 2013, almost 41% of the total children in the state have been exposed to child labor in one or another means. The main cause behind the popularity of child labor in Pakistan is the ever-increasing unemployment and inflation which has dragged many families below the poverty line.

Parents are forced to send their children to work instead of going to school because they don’t have the affordability and at the same time, they need an earning hand that can contribute to the expenses of the family. The government has to be blamed for making the conditions even worse due to their education policy which has restricted good and quality education only to the children of landlords and wealthy families because education in Pakistan is getting more and more expensive and beyond the affordability of many families. So under such circumstances, they have no other alternative other than sending their children to work so that they can survive in this competitive society and this will increase the rate of Child Labor in Pakistan.

A dense, growing, and young population and rising income levels in Pakistan have opened the door for companies producing consumer and edible items with growth in business and continuous profits. Engro Foods Limited (EFOODS) is the fastest-growing large company listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange and strong enough to cash in on all opportunities of big markets with big investments. Engro Food’s business encompasses milk and nutrition products, beverages, and ice cream. It operates in three business segments namely Dairy and Juices, Ice cream, and Dairy farms.

Engro Foods Limited company is the leader in UHT milk with over 44 percent market share while it is the second largest player in the ice cream segment with a market share of 24 percent. With the expansion, which is being financed by Rs 5 billion of debt (57 percent) and Rs 3.7 billion of internal funds (43 percent), the company expects to significantly increase its milk collection infrastructure which will help sustain future growth.

Textile Industry

The textile industry is the largest and major industry in Pakistan. At the time of partition, Pakistan received only 17 textile units in its share. The production of textiles was very low and a large number of textiles had to be imported to meet domestic, requirements. Now, Pakistan is a prominent country for the production of textiles. The textile industry accounts for 17.3% of value-added, 32.2% of industrial employment, and 60% of total exports. 354 mills were operating in the textile industry. The installed capacity of spindles was 8841 thousand and the installed capacity of looms was 10 thousand in the same year. The production of cloth was 558 million square meters by the organized mill’s sector. Various steps have been taken by the Government for the growth of the textile industry e.g. the provision of incentives, freedom to acquire technical assistance from abroad, direct financing institutions, and improvements in management and labor efficiency, etc.

Vegetable Ghee and Cooking Oil Industry:

At the time of independence oil industry of Pakistan was very poor. Now there are 150 vegetable ghee and cooking oil factories in Pakistan. Out of these 26 are in the public sector with an installed capacity of 500 thousand tons of ghee and cooking oil. The total production of ghee and cooking oil was 774 thousand tons. A large quantity of cooking oil is imported to meet domestic needs. The decline in the production of vegetable ghee is due to lower scale turnover and operational difficulties & closing down of two units in N.W.F.P.

Sugar Industry:

In 1947, there were only 2 sugar factories in Pakistan, but at present, there are 77 sugar factories in the industry. The total production of sugar was 3247 thousand tons. Revolutionary steps are required to expand the working capacity of this industry, which must be expanded and facilities should be provided to farmers for the production of better crops.

Fertilizer Industry:

There are 10 fertilizer units (6 in the public sector and 4 in the private sector) in the country, having an installed capacity of 42, 98,000 N. Tons (16, 74,000 N. Tons in the public sector and 26, 24,000 N. Tons is the private sector). The total production of fertilizers was 5012 thousand tons. The low production was caused, by operational difficulties, the decline in working hours, and power failure/load shedding. A number of concessions are provided for the growth of this industry.

Cement Industry:

At present 24 cement factories are operating in the country, out of these 4 factories are in the public sector and 20 are in the private sector. The installed capacity of cement is 16,300 thousand tons out of which 9935 thousand tons of cement was produced. This Major industry of Pakistan has been allowed duty-free import of plant and machinery.

Chemical Industry:

There are 12 chemical factories in the country producing, soda ash, sulphuric acid, caustic soda, chlorine gas, and other chemicals. The contribution of the chemical industry towards GNP is only 3%. This industry is not fulfilling domestic requirements, so a large amount of foreign exchange is spent on the import of different chemicals every year.
