How IELTS Overall Band is Calculated

Calculate IELTS Band There is a very specific and simple procedure through which the candidate can calculate their bands. Initially, the candidate should add all the respective individual marks for all four respective sections including Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. When the entire marks are added and the total is calculated then the total marks are divided by 4 (total number of sections) and the final number which is being obtained is known as the bands in the IELTS examination.

Total score = (Listening score + Reading score + Writing score + Speaking score) / 4

Example: if the candidate has received 6 marks in Listening, 7 marks in Reading  8 marks in Writing, and  7 marks in Speaking, the total band score of the candidate will be (6+7+8+7) / 4 = 7. Your score can be either a whole band or a band and a half – for example, 7 or 7.5. No other fractions are allowed, for example, 7.25 or 7.75. So what do they do in such cases, when the total score is neither whole nor half band?

There is a rule: if it ends with .25, round down, and if it ends with .75, round up.
